NPC History

In the 1970's a developer wanted to build row homes in Edgemere, but the majority of homeowners opposed this idea.

The North Point Peninsula Community Coordinating Council was formed through the efforts of Virginia Tolbert, Pearl Gintling and Bernard "Jack" Pabich, to fight to keep their small cozy, close-knit and safe community with single-family homes built on spacious lots just as it was. And they won! Also, the North Point Battle of 1812 Monument was erected on Interstate 695.

The Defenders Square in Edgemere was completed during the leadership of Carolyn Mroz.

Under the leadership of Harry Wujek, Jr. the NPC listened to concerns and ideas of the community. To improve the quality of life on the Peninsula, a grocery store with name recognition was the No. 1 priority. The second priority was to erect a Gateway Monument that would bring name recognition to the community.

Since 2000, the NPC has worked with Food Lion Executives and the location property owner to meet this overwhelming need to improve the quality of life on the Peninsula. The Food Lion Grocery Store opened on November 20, 2002.

Also, in 2002 the NPC accomplished its second priority to provide name recognition to those who live and work on the Peninsula by erecting the North Point Peninsula Gateway Monument at the intersection of Bethlehem Boulevard and Route 151.
